Upcoming Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) Conferences

Balancing research, teaching and service is an ongoing challenge for most faculty members. One useful approach can be to integrate the various components of the job to continuously inform one another. The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) can be helpful in this regard because faculty can create quality scholarship while also improving their teaching practice. There are many outlets for this type of work with dedicated tracks at national conferences in many fields. However, there also are a number of national or regional events dedicated specifically to SOTL. These meetings provide the opportunity to hear from nationally-renowned educators and to engage in a dialogue with others facing similar instructional challenges. Some sessions are quite practical with useful information on both timeless approaches and new technological innovations. Presenting at one of these conferences can also be a useful way of reflecting on one’s teaching and gaining valuable additional perspective from experts outside one’s field and university.

This spring and summer, there are several virtual conference options that provide excellent professional development opportunities and also the chance to explore and inform one’s ideas for potential new scholarship. Some in-person conferences are also upcoming and even some that are still accepting proposals for this year. If you are interested in a SOTL project or know of other useful upcoming conferences on the scholarship on teaching, we’d love to hear from you.
